Steps taken due to suspicious activities
Dr Virupaksha Biswas held important positions in the Medical Council's Penal and Ethics Committee and Mustafizur was also a member of the same committee. Meanwhile, the show-cause notice sent to Sandeep Ghosh states that he is in CBI custody in connection with the financial irregularities in RG Kar College and he has to respond to it within three days.
According to sources, Medical Council Chairman Sudipta Ray was being pressured by other doctors to take action. Questions were also being raised about Sudipta Ray's status. Finally, the council took strict action against Sandeep Ghosh under sections 25(2) and 37(iii) of the Code of Conduct and also suspended three doctors who were 'close to Sandeep'.
Doctors accused of 'bullying'
Virupaksha and Abhik were accused of 'bullying' in the medical college. After the RG Kar case, many allegations were also made against SSKM doctor trainee Abhik De for his presence at the scene. He has been suspended by the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad. Virupaksha Biswas, senior resident doctor of the pathology department of Burdwan Medical College, has been transferred from Burdwan Medical College to Kakdwip District Hospital on Wednesday.
This step has been taken by the State Medical Council after all these incidents, due to which there is a possibility of more stringent action in future against the concerned doctors.
