Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has given guidelines to all the district collectors to quickly restore life in the districts most affected by heavy rains in the state and to provide immediate help to the affected and needy families. After the instructions of the Chief Minister, the administration at the district level has started the process of payment to provide financial help and household items to the affected families in rural and urban areas by conducting a survey. Till September 3, a total of Rs 8.04 crore has been paid under cashdolls to 1,69,561 persons in the districts.
Talking to the media at the State Emergency Operation Center on Wednesday, Relief Commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey said that a total of 1120 teams have surveyed the flood-affected people in Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Anand, Kutch, Kheda, Gandhinagar, Jamnagar, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Narmada, Navsari, Porbandar, Morbi and Valsad districts of the state. In these districts, till September 3, a total of Rs 8.04 crore has been paid to 1,69,561 persons under cashdolls. He said that the teams are surveying the families whose household goods and clothes have been damaged due to being washed away or destroyed in the water. Apart from this, an amount of more than Rs 20.07 crore has been distributed to 50,111 families in the districts for household goods and clothing assistance.
The Relief Commissioner said that in the case of death due to flood and disaster, the state government has paid a total assistance of Rs 88 lakh to the families of 22 deceased. Along with this, a total assistance of Rs 1.78 crore has been provided to the owners of 2618 dead animals. Apart from this, a survey of kutcha-pucca houses and partially or completely destroyed houses or huts has also been started in the districts affected by heavy rains. Under this, a total amount of more than Rs 3.67 crore has been given as assistance to 4673 house-hut owners so far.
He said that due to the rains in South and Central Gujarat during the last two days, survey work is in progress in some districts. As soon as the number of persons and families becomes available to the district administration, the process of payment for household goods-clothes assistance, cashdollars, human and animal deaths, and damaged kutcha and pucca houses will be started. He said that amid heavy rainfall in the state, 17 NDRF, 27 SDRF and 09 Army columns, besides Air Force and Coast Guard teams have rescued a total of 37,050 people and taken 4,083 people to safe places. During this, 53 people were also airlifted.
The Relief Commissioner said that the repair work of 2230 km of roads affected by heavy rains in the state will be completed in the next 10 days and will be made motorable. Power supply was affected in a total of 6931 villages and 17 cities of the state due to heavy rains. Out of which power supply has been restored in 6927 villages and all 17 cities. While work is going on on a war footing to restore power supply in the remaining villages. At the same time, out of the total 88 sub-stations of the state which were closed as a precaution due to waterlogging, 86 have been restarted.
He informed that the administration is working day and night to repair broken roads and remove waterlogging in urban areas. Along with this, cleanliness drives are also being conducted and insecticides are being sprayed. A total grant of Rs 700 crore has been allocated to the municipal corporations under the Chief Minister Road Scheme by the Urban Development Department for other works including road repairs. He informed that 1262 government and 802 108-ambulances were prepared in the state with necessary medicines and equipment. The Relief Commissioner informed that 48,695 affected people and 602 pregnant women have been shifted to a total of 880 shelters in the state and medical teams have examined them. Also, a total of 216 successful deliveries have also been conducted in hospitals in the rain-affected areas.
