Thousands of people have been killed in the war between Israel and Hamas for the past five months and there is a dire threat of starvation in Gaza.
Officials of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the Human Rights Office said that at least 25 percent of the population in Gaza, i.e. about 5.76 lakh people, are facing starvation. There is such a shortage of basic necessities in Gaza that people are shooting at and looting trucks carrying relief supplies. Due to which it is becoming difficult to deliver relief material to the needy. People keep waiting on the road to rob trucks.
Officials said that Gaza's population is 23 lakhs and the problem of food shortage is becoming serious for most of the population, but the situation is even worse in northern Gaza. Where people are struggling for the necessities of life.
Officials from the Food and Agriculture Organization and the Human Rights Office informed the UN Security Council that the situation in Gaza was likely to worsen. One in six children under the age of two in northern Gaza is malnourished. Malnutrition among children in Gaza is higher than in any other part of the world and if action is not taken soon Gaza will face famine-like conditions.
