New Delhi, 04 December (HS). Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Prominent social justice leaders, including Stalin and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, on Tuesday called for a caste census, removal of the 50 per cent cap on reservation and stronger efforts to advance women’s rights.
Addressing the third edition of All India Social Justice Federation’s conference in New Delhi on Tuesday evening through video conferencing, MK Stalin said that social justice, secular politics, socialism, equality, state autonomy and federalism are our objectives. We need to unite and fight for these objectives. Stalin criticized the BJP for linking the Women’s Reservation Bill to the census and delimitation of constituencies and delaying its implementation till after 2029.
Stalin reiterated his demands to address pending vacancies, introduce reservation in judicial appointments, remove the 50 per cent cap on reservation and give states the right to formulate their own reservation policies.
On this occasion, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemen Soren said that we should oppose designs like lateral entry of officers in public service. This spirit of struggle should reach every corner or people involved. Leaders like Mulayam Singh Yadav and M. Karunanidhi had to struggle to provide social justice to the people. This fight is not over yet.
Thol Thirumavalavan, MP and Viduthalai Chiruthigal Katchi president, said the objectives of social justice cannot be fully achieved without a caste census. Those who participated in the ceremony included DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, Trinamool Congress MP Mohima Moitra, Fauzia Tehseen Shamad Khan, MP, Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar) and many others. Rajya Sabha member P Wilson expressed gratitude to all the leaders.
