After the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid in Jharkhand on Monday morning, such pictures came to light which shocked the entire nation. So many bundles of notes, that too in the servant's house. Jahangir Khan, from whose house more than Rs 35 crore cash was found, is the servant of Sanjeev Lal, personal assistant of Jharkhand minister Alamgir Alam. The ED will now start investigating who exactly the recovered notes belonged to and how they reached Jahangir's house. It is believed that the money received from Jahangir's house is a part of the commission game going on in the Rural Development Department.
Jahangir, originally from Chatra, is also said to be close to Minister Alamgir. In the initial investigation, Sanjeev Lal has denied having the money. The ED team reached Sir Syed's residence in Gadhikhana area of Ranchi and raided Jahangir's residence in flat no. 1A. Meanwhile, after finding the cupboards in his three rooms locked, ED reached Sanjeev with the keys. During the search, notes of Rs 500 and jewelery worth lakhs were found. Received Rs 10 lakh from OSD Sanjeev.
In fact, on November 13, 2019, on the complaint of a contractor, ACB had caught JE Suresh Prasad Verma, working under Rural Development Department Chief Engineer Virendra Ram, while taking a bribe of Rs 10,000. Suresh lived at Varinder Ram's house in Jamshedpur. When ACB raided Suresh Verma's house, Rs 2.44 crore was found. Then Suresh Prasad Verma and his wife Pushpa Verma claimed that this money belonged to Virendra Ram. His relative Alok Ranjan had hired him. After this ED registered the case.
When ED started investigating the ill-gotten gains and wrongdoings of suspended Chief Engineer of Jharkhand Rural Development Department Virendra Ram, widespread corruption in the Rural Development Department and Rural Affairs Department was also exposed. ED has found in the investigation that 3.2 percent commission was fixed on allotment of every contract in the department, out of which Virendra Ram kept only 0.3 percent commission. The ED investigation had found that the commission money was distributed among a syndicate of politicians, officers and engineers. Meanwhile, first of all investigation was started into the role of departmental minister Alamgir Alam, his OSD Sanjeev Lal and others.
State Government's Rural Development Minister Alamgir Alam is already on the radar of ED. ED had registered the first case against him in April 2022. In a case related to illegal mining, the then Chief Minister Pankaj Mishra and others were arrested by the ED and sent to jail. Alamgir Alam is already an accused in ECIR in this case. However, ED has not yet taken action against Alamgir in the case related to illegal mining. But after the arrest of Divisional Chief Engineer Virendra Ram, he was on the radar of ED. Now ED can take strict action against departmental OSD after recovering crores of rupees from them.
