A great opportunity has emerged for the youth who are looking for government jobs on prestigious posts in various ministries, departments and offices of the Central Government. Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has officially released the detailed notification of Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination 2026 on the official portal ssc.gov.in. Through this recruitment drive, qualified candidates will be appointed to a total of 2,536 posts. This examination is considered to be one of the most popular and most awaited competitive examinations of the country for 12th pass candidates, in which lakhs of youth from across the country participate every year. The Commission has activated the application process under Advertisement No. HQ-C1102/5/2026-C-1, under which eligible candidates can submit their forms through online mode.
According to the notification released by SSC, this recruitment is being conducted mainly to fill Group ‘C’ posts. Under this mainly the following posts are included:

Lower Divisional Clerk (LDC)/Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA): These posts come under Pay Level-2 (₹19,900 to ₹63,200) of the 7th Pay Commission.

Data Entry Operator (DEO): General Data Entry Operator posts come under Pay Level-4 (₹25,500 to ₹81,100) and in some departments, Pay Level-5 (₹29,200 to ₹92,300).

Data Entry Operator Grade ‘A’ (DEO Grade A): This post offers a pay scale under Pay Level-4 (₹25,500 to ₹81,100).
Apart from the basic salary, Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance (TA) and other central health and pension related facilities are payable to the selected employees as per rules, making this post a very attractive career option for 12th passed candidates.
The Commission has clarified the important timetable related to application and examination in the official notification:

Candidates are advised to complete their form well in time without waiting for the last date to avoid heavy traffic and technical glitches on the server in the last days.

Educational qualification: For most of the LDC, JSA and DEO posts, it is mandatory for the candidate to have passed 10+2 (Class 12th) or its equivalent examination from a recognized board or institute. For some special data entry operator posts in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Culture etc., it has been made necessary to have 12th pass from the Faculty of Science (Science with Mathematics) as a subject. The cut-off date for qualifying is set to be 7 October 2026.

Age Limit: The minimum age of the candidates should be 18 years and maximum age should be 27 years. The reference date for calculating age has been fixed as 1 August 2026 (i.e. the candidate should not have been born before 2 August 1999 and after 1 August 2008).

Relaxation in age limit: According to the rules of the Central Government, the reserved categories will be given relaxation in the upper age limit as per rules – 3 years relaxation is allowed for OBC category, 5 years relaxation is allowed for SC/ST category and 10 to 15 years relaxation is allowed for the candidates of Disabled (PwBD) category.
The selection process of SSC CHSL 2026 will be based mainly on a two-stage Computer Based Test (CBT), followed by Skill Test/Typing Test and Document Verification.
Tier-I examination will be of 200 marks, in which a total of 100 multiple choice questions will be asked (each question carrying 2 marks). There will be four subjects:

English Language – 25 questions (50 marks)

General Intelligence / Reasoning – 25 Questions (50 Marks)

Quantitative Aptitude / Basic Mathematics – 25 questions (50 marks)

General Awareness – 25 questions (50 marks)
This year, as an important change in the examination, the system of sectional timing has also been added, in which there will be a fixed time of 15-15 minutes for all four subjects (total time 60 minutes). There will be a provision of negative marking of 0.50 marks for wrong answers. Candidates shortlisted on the basis of merit in Tier-I will appear in Tier-II, after which Computer Typing or Data Entry Speed Test will be conducted as per the post.
The application fee for male candidates of General (UR), OBC and EWS category has been fixed at only ₹ 100. Whereas women candidates, Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Disabled (PwBD) and Ex-Servicemen (ESM) have been completely exempted from the application fee.
Candidates can easily apply by visiting the Commission’s new portal ssc.gov.in or through ‘mySSC’ official app. To apply, first of all you have to complete One-Time Registration (OTR) on the new portal. After this, login and click on CHSL 2026 link, enter the required personal and educational information, capture live photo, upload signature and after fee payment, keep the printout of the filled form safe.
