Colombo, September 2 (HS) Sri Lanka's main Tamil party, Tamil National Alliance (TNA) said on Sunday that it will support opposition leader Sajith Premadasa in the presidential election to be held on September 21.
TNA spokesperson MA Sumanthiran told reporters that the decision was taken at a central committee meeting of TNA's main party 'Ilankai Tamil Arasu Katchi' (ITAK) on Sunday. According to experts, the decision is not a surprise as Sumanthiran has worked closely with the opposition since 2022.
The TNA had previously supported the opposition candidate in the 1999, 2005, 2010, 2015 and 2019 presidential elections.
