In this match being played at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, Mumbai team captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to bowl first. After which Sunrisers Hyderabad team gave the biggest target of 278 runs in IPL history.

After losing the toss and batting first, Sunrisers team batted explosively and scored 277 runs at the loss of 3 wickets. This is the biggest score in the history of IPL. With this, the 11 year old record of Royal Challengers Bangalore has also been broken. RCB scored 263 runs at the loss of 5 wickets against Pune Warriors on 23 April 2013. Then Chris Gayle played an explosive inning of 175 runs in 66 balls.

2 fastest fifties of the season in the match
First of all, for the Sunrisers team, Travis Head scored the fastest fifty of the season in 18 balls. After which Abhishek Sharma broke this record and scored a fifty in 16 balls. This is Head's first match of the season. He scored 62 runs on 24 balls. Whereas Abhishek played an inning of 63 runs in 23 balls. After which in the end Heinrich Klaasen scored 80 runs in 34 balls and remained unbeaten. Whereas Hayden Markram played a big inning of 42 runs and took the team to a historic score. Hardik Pandya, Gerald Coetzee and Piyush Chawla took 1-1 wicket for Mumbai.
