Sputum testing and treatment in intensive TB detection campaign: Dr. Laxmi Singh | News India

Jaunpur, 19 September (H.S.). In the order of the guidelines given by the Medical and Health Services under the NTEP program, for a total of 10 days from 9 to 20 September, the Health Department teams (Asha, ANM and Anganwadi) are running an intensive TB search disease campaign (active case finding campaign) by visiting door to door in the TB prone targeted population areas in the districts to screen TB patients as well as to provide free sputum examination and treatment facilities.

In this case, while talking to Hindustan News representative on Thursday, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Laxmi Singh said that under the Intensive TB Detection Disease Campaign, the team is identifying the people who are complaining of cough, fever, night sweats, weight loss, loss of appetite and blood in sputum for more than 2 weeks and getting their sputum tested at the nearest microscopy centers and treating them as soon as possible and making them healthy.

Dr. Laxmi Singh said that this campaign will help in reducing the spread of TB. Under the Active Case Finding Campaign, the screening of TB patients is being done in the district through a total of 435 teams and 87 supervisors appointed for the efficient supervision of those teams, among the 20 percent TB prone population in comparison to the total population of 54.5 lakhs of the district. For the comprehensive success of this campaign, intensive monitoring is being done through all ACMO rank officers of the district level, superintendents-in-charge medical officers of all the health centers of the district and supervisors of NTEP. During the ACF campaign, in addition to microscopy, CBNAAT machines installed at DTC and Health Center Shahganj will also be used for examining the sputum of TB patients of the district.

Dr. Laxmi told that apart from this, Tonat machine will also be operational for testing at 16 centers of the district. Till now in the year 2024, a total of 7480 TB patients have been confirmed in the district. Under the Active Case Finding Campaign, TB screening work is being done by NTEP staff in close setting areas like Government Old Age Home, District Jail, Navodaya Vidyalaya, Madrasas in the area. Under the campaign, TB notification work is being done by going among all the doctors and chemists of the private sector. In the 6-day campaign of ACF, while screening of a total of 6,97,645 persons, sputum of a total of 7,727 TB probable patients has been tested. In which a total of 75 TB patients have been identified so far.
