Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who was disqualified before the women's wrestling final at the Paris Olympics, lost her case at the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS).
However, Phogat, who lost in Paris, has won in the Delhi High Court. Vinesh and her fellow wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik filed a petition in the Delhi High Court against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), after hearing which the High Court reinstated the ad hoc committee and took away all the rights from Chief Sanjay Singh. Now the ad hoc committee will look after all the work of the federation. The three Indian wrestlers appealed to the High Court that the ban imposed on the Wrestling Federation should not be lifted and a retired judge of the Supreme Court should be given the work of management. It is worth noting that the internal politics of the Wrestling Federation is also considered to have a big role in the entire controversy in the Paris Games.
The Delhi High Court has also directed that the Sports Ministry can withdraw its decision to lift the ban on December 12, 2023 whenever it wants. It has also been told that the Sports Ministry can also form its own ad-hoc committee.
