Sports: India can host FIFA World Cup around 2036 Olympics: Kalyan Chobe

All India Football Federation president Kalyan Chobe believes that India can host the FIFA World Cup around the 2036 Olympics. He said whichever country hosts the Olympics, as per tradition the FIFA World Cup is played in the same country for two years around the sports center of the world. It is noteworthy that Brazil played the FIFA World Cup in 2014 and Rio Olympics was organized two years later. Similarly, Russia hosted the FIFA World Cup in 2016 and the Winter Olympics in 2014. He said that due to the Olympics, India will have ready infrastructure which can strengthen its bid to host the FIFA World Cup.

AIFF President Chobe said that football is developing rapidly in Gujarat and added that the Super League football played between six teams will give the players of Gujarat experience as well as a platform to reach higher levels. . As the tournament is growing, more and more young players are getting opportunities which is a good sign for Gujarat football. At the international level, India has made its own identity in football in the last few years.

50 years ago India missed playing in the FIFA World Cup

India's current ranking in football is around 100 but there was a time when India could have easily played in the FIFA World Cup but the then government gave more priority to the Olympics and Asian Games. Interestingly, the Indian Football Federation was established before the formation of FIFA. In the early days of FIFA, about 20 countries played football and India was also included in it. India qualified regularly for four Olympics from 1947 to 1960 and was the strongest team in Asia, but where India fell short has been a controversial topic. If India had played the World Cup in 1950, it would have had to play against top-ranked countries and India would not have been left behind.
