A massive protest and ‘Sansad Chalo’ march was organized at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar under the banner of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) against alleged irregularities and rigging in the examinations. During the demonstration, there were heated clashes between the police and the protesters and the police resorted to lathi charge and tear gas shells. On one hand, when the agitating students and workers were facing police action on the road, a video of CJP’s chief spokesperson Vijeta Dahiya spread like wildfire on social media. In this clip, he was seen comfortably eating a burger inside a fast-food outlet located near the protest site.
‘Grave insensitivity and lack of conscience’: CJP condemns in official statement
After the video went viral and faced massive opposition from supporters as well as opposition leaders, the Cockroach Janata Party took a quick and extremely strong stand on the matter. CJP issued a statement on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle strongly condemning this act of Vijeta Dahiya. The party clearly said that when our workers and students were facing police brutality, such conduct was extremely insensitive and showed a severe lack of understanding. This action is completely against the values, principles and moral commitment of the movement, due to which he has been relieved from the post of spokesperson and all responsibilities with immediate effect.
‘I had not slept for two nights and I was hungry’: Winner Dahiya gave clarification
After the burger controversy escalated and he was removed from the post, winner Dahiya also released a video of himself on social media and gave clarification on the entire matter. Responding to the trollers and critics, he said that he had been working continuously for this movement for the last one and a half month and had not even slept for the last two nights. He said that it is very natural for a human being to feel hungry and when someone is hungry he eats food, there is nothing to create such a big controversy about it. However, despite his clarification, his irresponsible attitude is being strongly criticized on social media and in political circles.
Amidst the movement, the party faced difficulties on political and social platforms.
After this step of Vijeta Dahiya, not only the party supporters but many big leaders also targeted her. Many prominent personalities, including former Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, raised the question that the spokesperson, who talks big on forums, was spending time in restaurants instead of standing with the protesters during the real crisis. After this action against Vijeta Dahiya, who was in controversies regarding some of his statements in the past, CJP has tried to send a message that compromise with the principles of the movement will not be tolerated at any cost.
