We try to find happiness in the outside world while living our lives. That is why we spend most of our time in accumulating wealth, gaining respect and maintaining a healthy body, but despite doing all this we are not able to remain happy from within. Saints and great men explain to us that true happiness is not outside, but within us.
This true happiness is covered by layers of illusion of our soul, mind, body and the world and we are unaware of it. To remove this ignorance we can take shelter of the teachings of those sages who are oceans of truth, consciousness and bliss. In the beginning he was alone. Then they decided to become many and separated their parts which we call souls and sent them to live in this material creation.
When the soul comes to this world, it is given a physical body and mind to function here. What should have happened was that our soul would have control over our body and mind but unfortunately it turned out to be the opposite. The soul has become attached to the body and mind and has become their embodiment and has forgotten itself. Our mind is very powerful and wants entertainment all the time. It soon gets caught in the external glare.
It is attracted towards every beautiful sight, sweet sound, nice fragrance, idleness and charming touch. All our senses keep pulling the mind outward because soul and mind live together in this body. Therefore, the soul also becomes helplessly attracted towards the pleasures of the senses and forgets its original nature.
Instead of focusing on its own reality full of truth, consciousness and joy, the soul has become absorbed in the external world. When a child is born he is pure and ignorant of this world. We feel extraordinary happiness by being around him and we create a small world around him and he starts getting absorbed in that world. Due to this he starts losing the peace of his purity. No one in this world teaches us to find happiness within ourselves. This knowledge can be obtained only by going to the feet of saints and mahatmas.-Sant Rajinder Singh.
