Speed of vehicles will stop on Delhi-Greater Noida Expressway, police issues traffic alert

Noida Traffic Advisory 9 October: Today may prove to be a troublesome day for lakhs of working people and commuters who commute daily in the National Capital Region (NCR). There is a serious possibility of heavy traffic jams and slow movement throughout the day today on the Delhi-Noida border, Chilla border and the 24 km long busy Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. Noida Traffic Police has issued an official advisory appealing to the commuters to choose alternative routes instead of the main carriageway of the expressway to avoid inconvenience and wastage of time. The vehicular pressure is expected to be at its peak during peak hours (8:30 am to 11:30 am and 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm), due to which additional traffic police personnel have been deployed at all major cuts and intersections.

According to senior traffic police officials, there are several technical and administrative reasons behind the jam situation on the expressway and its associated feeder routes today:

  • VIP Movement and Security Protocols: Due to high level administrative inspection related to India Expo Mart in Greater Noida and Jewar Airport connectivity and movement of VIP convoys, traffic may be stopped or slowed down for short intervals from time to time on several stretches of the expressway.

  • Re-surfacing and maintenance work: Black-topping (asphaltisation) and repair work of expansion joints is going on in some selected kilometer stretches on the expressway, due to which 2-2 lanes have been narrowed by installing barricades.

  • Underpass and drainage connectivity work: Due to the ongoing infrastructure works near Sector-96 and Sector-142, a bottleneck situation is being created due to vehicles moving from the main lane to the service lane.

According to traffic police advisory, vehicle queues may be longest at the following locations:

  1. Chilla Regulator and DND Flyway Cut: Slow movement of vehicles at both the main entry points entering Noida from Delhi.

  2. Mahamaya Flyover to Sector-37 Loop: The meeting point of traffic coming from Kalindi Kunj and Ashram side.

  3. Sector-128 & 132 (JP Hospital Cut): The pressure of local traffic on the main road from the service road.

  4. Pari Chowk (Greater Noida): Congestion of heavy vehicles at the junction turning from the expressway towards Surajpur, Kasna and Yamuna Expressway.

Commuters going to offices and for urgent work have been advised to use these alternative routes to avoid the main route of the expressway:

  • DSC Road (Dadri-Surajpur-Chhalera Marg): Commuters going towards Greater Noida from Delhi or Sector-18 can use DSC Road via Botanical Garden, Golf Course, Barola and Bhangel.

  • MP-2 and MP-3 Elevated Road: People coming from Mayur Vihar or Akshardham can take the elevated road directly from Rajnigandha Chowk and proceed directly via Greater Noida West (Noida Extension) via Sector-62 and Sector-71 intersection.

  • Okhla Barrage Diversion from Kalindi Kunj: Drivers coming from South Delhi should directly approach Ashram-DND loop in case of increased pressure at Kalindi Kunj border.

  • Internal Sector Routes: Congested bottleneck points can be bypassed by using the internal sector routes of Sectors 128, 135, 137 and 142 running parallel to the expressway.

To control the jam, the traffic police has imposed a partial ban on plying of medium and heavy commercial goods vehicles on the expressway during the day, except for essential services (milk, fruits and vegetables, ambulance and petroleum tankers). Such vehicles are being diverted towards Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE).

Noida Police Commissionerate has issued a traffic helpline number for the assistance of the general public. 9971009001 And the social media handle (X: @noidatraffic) has been instructed to remain active 24 hours. In case of any emergency or to know the exact condition of the road, citizens can directly contact this number.
