
Lucknow, 01 October. On International Day of Older Persons, Yogi government reiterated its commitment towards respect and social protection of senior citizens. In a function organized at Bhagidari Bhawan, Gomti Nagar under the joint aegis of Social Welfare Department, Helpage India and Senior Citizens General Committee, Centenary Award was given to three senior citizens who have completed 100 years of age and ‘Senior Achievers Award’ was given to four senior people who are making constructive contribution to the society.
Centenary honor to those who complete 100 years of age
Chief guest of the function, Minister of State for Social Welfare (Independent Charge) Asim Arun honored Lalli Devi, Rani Kapoor and retired judge Kamleshwar Nath with the Centenary Award. Vinod Kumar Shukla, Lalit Singh Pokharia, historian and writer Dr. Ravi Bhatt and Dr. Kishan Veer Singh Shakya received the Senior Achievers award.
Society is enriched by the experience of seniors
Minister Aseem Arun said that senior people are an invaluable heritage of experience, values and life values. The society prospers with their experience and blessings. Respect for elders should not be just a responsibility but should become a part of lifestyle. Yogi government is continuously working for the health, safety, respect and social protection of senior citizens.
Emphasis on linking care economy with employment
The Minister said that the care economy is being linked to employment and social security to increase the availability of trained caregivers to care for the elderly. For the welfare of senior citizens, Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act and National Old Age Pension Scheme are implemented. Maintenance tribunals are constituted under the chairmanship of SDM in all 75 districts of the state.
Youth took pledge to respect elders
A documentary on the facilities of old age homes of the Social Welfare Department was shown in the programme. Children of CMS, RDSO branch gave a cultural presentation on the song Tu Dil Na Dukha by their parents. The youth took a pledge to respect the elders. During this, Director Social Welfare Sanjeev Singh, State Head of Helpage India Anoop Pant, Chairman of Scheduled Caste/Tribe Commission Baijnath Rawat, Joint Director RP Singh, District Social Welfare Officer Anamika Singh and other officials were present.
