Gurdaspur: Gurdaspur special court judge Baljinder Sidhu has sentenced the accused of raping a minor girl to life imprisonment and fine. On June 22, 2021, a case of kidnapping and rape under sections 363, 366A, 376 of the IPC and POCSO Act was registered against the accused Nishan Singh alias Sonu, son of Mukhtiyar Singh, resident of village Dhardio (Amritsar), at Dhariwal police station. In this regard, a woman from a village under Dhariwal police station had said in her complaint that her daughter had gone to the market to buy household items on June 10, 2021, but did not return.
Relatives were also interrogated but no clue was found. He gave a complaint letter to the police and expressed suspicion that his daughter had been kidnapped by Nishan Singh alias Sonu. He requested the police to search for the girl. After this the police started investigation and the girl was recovered. Based on his statements, a case of kidnapping and rape was registered against Nishan Singh. It also directed the District Legal Services Authority to pay Rs 5 lakh as compensation to the minor girl.
