Madrid, 23 February. The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has extended the contract of Spain national team coach Luis de la Fuente until the 2026 World Cup finals. RFEF confirmed this on Thursday.
Fuente's previous contract ran until the end of this summer's European Championships, meaning the 62-year-old coach will be in charge for the next two years.
The former Spain under-21 coach replaced Luis Enrique after Spain's disappointing campaign at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and has so far led Spain to success in the 2023 Nations League, with a win on penalties against Croatia. Spain has also qualified for the European Championships.
Under Fuente's coaching, Spain have scored 27 goals in 10 matches and conceded only six, while he has also continued Luis Enrique's policy of giving opportunities to young players such as FC Barcelona's Yamin Lamel.
