Madrid, May 22 (HS). Star Spanish women's footballer Alexia Putellas has signed a new contract with FC Barcelona until June 2026, including an option to extend for a further year. The club gave the above information on Tuesday.
The 30-year-old Putellas is considered one of the best women's footballers of all time after scoring 189 goals in 424 matches for Barcelona and 30 goals in 114 matches for the Spain women's national team.
Her performances were recognized globally when she was awarded the Ballon d'Or as the world's best player in 2021 and 2022.
A knee injury limited Putellas' appearances in 2023 and she played only a minor role in Spain's victory at the Women's World Cup, and played only eight matches in Liga F.
She appeared as a substitute when Barcelona beat Real Sociedad 8-0 in the Copa de la Reina final last Saturday, with that victory taking her to 29 trophies with her club.
Barcelona will play Olympique Lyonnais in the Women's Champions League final, which will be played at Athletic Bilbao's San Mamés stadium on Saturday.
