News India Live, Digital Desk: In South Korea, the new President Li J-Mayang won the special presidential election on Tuesday. He has won after six months of political chaos in the country.

Liberal Party leader Lee received more than 49.3% of the votes. Voting was more than 80%, which is the highest in the country in the last three decades. His main rival Kim Moon-Su has accepted the defeat.

Why did presidential elections been held in South Korea?

This suddenly happened after former election President Yun Suk Yol was removed from the post. At the end of 2024, Yun suddenly imposed martial law, leading to massive protests across South Korea. People came out on the streets and the situation became so tense that Yun had to withdraw the order and publicly apologize on live television.

On December 14, members of Parliament voted for impeachment against him. After a court review that lasted for nearly six months, Yu was officially dismissed from the post on 4 April.

Meanwhile, even more political instability was observed in the country. The acting Prime Minister Han Dook-Suk-Su-Su-Suk was also impeached not to sign a special bill and a temporary charge was given to Finance Minister Choi Song-Mok. Yu was also taken into custody, but was later released after the court verdict.

Political visit to Li J-Melm

Lee J-Mang’s journey up to the presidency has been full of struggle. Born in a poor family in a hill village in Endong in 1963, Lee worked in a factory in his youth and later became a human rights lawyer.

He entered politics in 2005 and served as Mayor of Seongam and Governor of Gyonggi province. In 2022, he lost the presidential election, but his party returned this year and chose his candidate for his tough stance against Yun’s actions.

In 2024, Lee Busan survived a knife attack, where he was stabbed with a knife and had to be hospitalized. Despite all the difficulties, he became the top leader of the country.

Li J-Melg said that he will strengthen America-Japan relations

On Wednesday, Lee formally began his five -year term, without a normal transition period of two months. In his inaugural speech at the National Assembly, he promised to start negotiations with North Korea while maintaining a strong military relationship with the US.

He said that peace on the Korean peninsula would be the main focus and emphasized practical diplomacy with all neighboring countries. Lee also pledged to promote tripartite partnership between South Korea, America and Japan.

Lee said his highest priority would be to revive South Korea’s slowing economy. He announced a plan to create an emergency task force to fight the recession and promised more government spending to increase economic activity. The country’s central bank recently cut interest rates and reduced the 2025 development forecast to 0.8%, mainly due to American tariff growth and internal instability.

Although some former critics of Lee said that their inclination is towards China and North Korea, now they strongly stated that South Korea’s alliance with the US will remain the origin of its foreign policy.

Prime Minister Modi congratulated Lee

While congratulating Lee on his election, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote, “India-ROK is expected to work together to further extend and strengthen the special strategic partnership.”

Lee also invited South Korea’s Joint Chief of Staff to ensure strong military preparations against North Korea and visited Seoul’s National Cemetery to express respect for former leaders and war heroes.
