Former cricketer Jonty Rhodes believes that South Africa’s fast bowlers will not get any special advantage in the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia at Lord’s. This final will be played from 11 to 15 June, with a reserve day scheduled for 16 June if needed.
Speaking to PTI via video, Rhodes said, “I don’t think South Africa will get any benefit. Australian batsmen are adept at facing fast bowlers and they have a strong battery of bowlers that the South African batsmen will have to face.”
He further said, “I would not say that we are going to get any benefit. The Australian batsmen are ready to face the fast bowlers, and considering this, it is going to be a great match.”
Impact of fast bowlers and South Africa’s cricket graph
South Africa’s fast bowlers have performed well in this World Test Championship cycle. Kagiso Rabada has taken 37 wickets in eight matches and Marco Jansen has taken 29 wickets in seven matches.
Rhodes also said that the graph of South African cricket is going upwards. He said, “Success leads to success. For a long time, South Africa was in the middle position in the ICC rankings. “Rugby is the most popular sport here because we have won the World Championship back-to-back.”
Citing the example of Indian cricket, he said, “As a player and coach in India, I have seen how success increases the popularity of the game. I hope that through tournaments like SA20 and the performance of the Test team, the graph of cricket in South Africa will also rise.”
