News India Live, Digital Desk: The famous saying is “What’s in a name?” But if we talk about Jharkhand, then the name is full of Rs 1500 crore Have kept. Don’t be surprised, this is not a phrase but a side effect of a government decision.

Actually, there is news that the Central Government is preparing to change the name of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA). now it ‘Vande Bharat Rural Employment Guarantee’ (VB-GramG) Will be known as. This change sounds normal, but on the ground its impact is going to be so heavy on a state like Jharkhand that the officials are sweating on their forehead.

After all, why the expenditure of Rs 1500 crore?
Now you must be thinking that only the name has to be changed, where will this much money go? Let us explain its simple mathematics to you.

  1. Crores of job cards will be junk: There are lakhs of MNREGA workers in Jharkhand. Everyone has a ‘job card’ on which Mahatma Gandhi NREGA is written in big letters. Once the name is changed, these old cards will become useless and new cards will have to be printed.
  2. Boards installed in every village: In every village and panchayat of Jharkhand, there are signboards near the wells, roads or ponds built under MNREGA schemes. All of them will either have to be demolished and rebuilt or repainted and given a new name. The cost of one board also runs into thousands.
  3. Government stationery and seals: Crores of files, registers and receipt books present in government offices have old names on them. They will all become garbage. New stationery, new seals and new receipts will have to be made.

Reports estimate that this entire process in Jharkhand will cost around Rs 1500 crore. This is a huge amount.

double blow on poor state
Jharkhand is an economically backward state. Many new roads could have been built there with Rs 1500 crore or lakhs of laborers could have been given daily wages for several days. Officials believe this “unnecessary expenditure” will put a strain on the state’s development funds.

It is natural to raise the question whether changing the name of a scheme is really so important that billions of rupees are spent on it? Couldn’t this money be used to provide better facilities to the workers?

Only time will tell when this decision will be fully implemented, but this burden on the treasury of Jharkhand has definitely become a topic of discussion.
