Kanpur, 15 October (Hindustan Reporter). Sonu Pandey, an associate of former Kanpur Press Club president Avneesh Dixit, who is absconding in the land grabbing case worth crores, managed to dodge the police and appear in the court on Tuesday. On the orders of the court, the police sent him to jail for 14 days in judicial custody.
Deputy Commissioner of Police East Shravan Kumar said that a case has been registered against former president of Kanpur Press Club Avnish Dixit and fellow journalist Vivek alias Sonu Pandey and others for illegal occupation of land worth about Rs 1000 crore belonging to Nazul in the Kotwali police station. Sonu Pandey absconded after the case was registered. While Avnish Dixit is currently in jail. Police were continuously raiding in search of Sonu Pandey. After absconding, the police pasted a notice at his house and also announced a reward of Rs 50,000. Sonu's name was included during the investigation.
Kapil Deep Sachan, advocate of accused Vivek alias Sonu Pandey, said that on Tuesday, Sonu Pandey appeared in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Suraj Mishra. On the orders of the court, the Kotwali police arrested Sonu Pandey and sent him to jail for 14 days judicial custody.
