Sonipat, 11 April (HS). Representatives of Haryana, SKM and Khap Panchayats joined the farmers' struggle in the Mahapanchayat held in Nahara village of Sonipat. It was decided in the Mahapanchayat on Thursday that the work of installing high tension line towers will remain closed until a new policy is made. Farmers have given an ultimatum of two days to the government to cancel the cases against farmers.
The matter was about forcefully removing high tension electric lines from their fields at Auchandi border without giving them compensation. State Vice President of Bharatiya Kisan Union (Chadhuni) Satyawan Narwal, President of Delhi Kisan Adhikar Morcha Satendra Lohchab, Ravi Azad, Umesh Dahiya Satendra Dahiya Block Praghan Kharkhoda, Pradeep Khatri Rai, apart from BKU, Chaudhary Gaurav Tikait of SKM, members of various organizations. Leaders, heads of Khaps etc. and thousands of farmers were involved.
The demand of the farmers was raised from Punjab-Khod village from 13 November 2023. When this issue was raised at Auchandi border on 25 November 2023, the police arrested 35 people. 52 arrests were made on 14–15 January 2014. A Panchayat was held in Nahra village of Sonipat on March 30, 2024, in which an FIR was lodged by the police against hundreds of farmers, including the names of 16 farmers. The government has been given time to finish the cases against farmers in two days. The struggling farmers should be listened to, the police should stop interfering, the companies should not forcibly dig pits in the fields or install high tension line towers without giving compensation in any way. On this, the BDPO of Sonipat has come to the administration and ordered the company to stop work until a new policy is made.
