New Delhi: Rizwan Qadri, member of the Prime Minister’s Museum and Library (PMML), has written to Rahul Gandhi demanding the return of 51 trunks of letters related to Nehru that Sonia Gandhi had taken away during her UPA tenure. Qadri has sought help from Rahul Gandhi to recover important documents, which are related to Nehru and reach Sonia Gandhi.

Qadri alleges that during the UPA regime in 2008, Nehru’s personal letters were packed in 51 trunks and delivered to Sonia Gandhi. Nehru wrote this letter to Edwina Mountbatten, Albert Einstein, Jayaprakash Narayan, Padmaja Naidu, Vijayalakshmi Pandit, Aruna Asaf Ali, Babu Jagjivanram and Govind Vallabhpant, among others. PMML member Rizwan Qadri had written a letter to Rahul Gandhi on 10 December. Earlier, he had also written a letter to Sonia Gandhi in September.

PMML believes that this letter is a historically important document. Therefore these letters should be with the PM Museum. This letter was given by the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial in 1971 to the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, now PMML. Rahul Gandhi has been asked to obtain the original copy of these letters from Sonia Gandhi or obtain a Xerox or digital copy of the same.

The letter said that we understand that this document will have personal significance for the Nehru family. But PMML believes that making historical material more widely accessible would greatly benefit scholars and researchers. Rizwan Qadri, historian and author and one of the PMML members, said that in September 2024, I had written a letter to Sonia Gandhi requesting this, but after not getting any response from her, I contacted opposition leader Sonia Gandhi and returned this letter. Did it.
