The Supreme Court has refused to stay the proceedings to stop the demolition in Somnath. A hearing was held in the Supreme Court on Friday in the case of bulldozer action near Somnath. The Supreme Court has made strict remarks during the hearing on the contempt petition of Patni Muslim Jamaat. The court said that if our order is ignored, we will order its reinstatement and will also send the responsible officers to jail.
During the hearing, the Supreme Court also said that if the bulldozer action is found wrong then the government will have to do it again. The Supreme Court has sent a notice to the DM and other officials of Somnath. Also, Gujarat government has been asked to file a reply. Now the next hearing of this case will be on 16 October. However, the court rejected the petitioner's demand to maintain the status quo.
The contempt petition alleges illegal demolition of centuries-old mosques, tombs, houses of Mutawalis in Gir Somnath, Gujarat. The contempt petition states that despite the Supreme Court's order to stop the bulldozer action, large-scale demolition work has been carried out. The petition demands contempt proceedings against the Collector and other officials of Gir Somnath.
SC reserves verdict on bulldozer action
