She completed her schooling from Queen Mary’s School, Mumbai and earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from St. Xavier’s College. He later joined the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune to study acting. Shabana Azmi’s mother Shaukat passed away in 2019. Shabana Azmi tried to commit suicide twice in her childhood. Her mother Shaukat has revealed about this incident in her autobiography that Shabana once drank copper sulphate in the school lab. At that time his friend saved him. The actress took such a drastic step because she felt that her mother loved her younger brother more, so in anger she tried to commit suicide. The second time when Shabana was angry with her mother, she tried to commit suicide by coming in front of the train. But the school watchman saved him.
