Social workers distributed free jute bags on World Plastic Free Day

Saharsa, 03 July (HS). On the occasion of World Plastic Bag Free Day, social workers Anant Roshan Jha and Roshan Mishra on Wednesday organized a public awareness campaign and jute bag distribution program in various parts of the city.

Wandering around the main markets of the city, he distributed jute bags to the people. Also, people were made aware to not use single-use plastic. People were made to take a pledge that they will use as little plastic as possible in their daily lives. Anant Roshan Jha, while making people aware, said that the use of plastic bags is completely prohibited but due to administrative apathy, it is not implemented.

Plastic does not get destroyed even in five hundred years. One lakh sixty thousand plastic bags are used every second all over the world. The useful life of a plastic bag is about ten to twenty five minutes but it takes 500 to 1000 years for plastic bags to get destroyed.

More than 260 marine species have been destroyed by plastic debris. Plastic bags are produced using petroleum. Let's pledge to at least not use plastic bags. Social worker Roshan Mishra appealed to the people that plastic waste does not decompose. Which means it can remain in landfills and soil, rivers and oceans for centuries. Which causes continuous damage to the environment as well as wildlife. A collective effort is needed to tackle plastic pollution and save our planet. The local people appreciated this effort.
