Canadian PM Justin Trudeau is keen on deteriorating relations with India. Canada has once again given an anti-India statement in the Khalistani Hardeep Singh Nijjar case. After which India took strict action and expelled 6 Canadian diplomats. The statement of the Ministry of External Affairs clearly states that Trudeau is harming India-Canada relations to save his political career in his country.
Trudeau government failed?
Rising inflation, affordable housing, irregular immigration and declining jobs have damaged Trudeau's image. After NDP (New Democratic Party) withdrew support from the government, they are running a lame duck government and it seems they have resorted to bad mouthing India to hide their failure. Trudeau is also facing challenges within his own Liberal Party, with some in his own party beginning to dislike him. However, he considers himself the only leader of the party who is a contender for the post of PM.
Trudeau's declining popularity
According to the Angus Reid Institute, the number of people liking Trudeau is decreasing drastically. Last September, 39 percent people had rejected him. Within a year this number has increased to 65 percent. His acceptance in the country has dropped from 51 percent to just 30 percent. After which their aim is to do anything to woo Khalistan voters before the elections. For which he has again started his anti-India agenda.
Demanded Trudeau's resignation
A growing number of Liberal MPs recognize Trudeau's failure. They are uniting to force Trudeau to resign as party leader. Dissatisfaction with Trudeau's leadership is increasing, due to which there is discussion among disgruntled MPs about changing the party leader. According to CBC's poll tracker, the Liberals trail the main opposition Conservatives by about 20 percentage points. By once again blaming Indian diplomats, they are trying to divert Trudeau's attention from his career crisis and by doing so they are also hoping to win the votes of Khalistanis. However, his actions have led to a rift between India and Canada.
Steps taken to woo NDP?
Trudeau's Liberal Party is currently in minority. The government was formed with the support of the New Democratic Party. But in September 2024, the NDP withdrew support from the Trudeau government, reducing Canada's Trudeau government to a minority. New Democratic Party President Jagmeet Singh is a Sikh. He is considered a supporter of Khalistan. The NDP won 24 seats in the 2021 election. Justin Trudeau's Liberal Party is 156 seats short of a majority (170). It is being said that Trudeau has taken this step to woo the New Democratic Party.
