December rain in Delhi has broken a 101 year old record. Safdarjung received 41.2 mm of rain in 24 hours till 8.30 am. This is the second heaviest rain in a single day in the month of December in the history of Delhi. Earlier, the all-time record was 75.7 mm on 3 December 1923. In such a situation, the rainfall recorded today is a record after 101 years.
Earlier till Friday, the highest rainfall had been recorded in the last 15 years. Due to which the maximum temperature dropped by about 10 degrees yesterday and the temperature was recorded at 14.6 degrees. In this respect, it was the coldest day in the last 5 years. It has been raining continuously in Delhi since yesterday. However, the good news is that the air quality has improved due to the rains and now the GRAP-3 restrictions have been lifted.
Today Delhi’s AQI fell into ‘moderate’ category.
According to the Central Pollution Index Board, Delhi’s AQI fell into the ‘moderate’ category today, which was in the very poor category for the past several days. According to CPCB data, Delhi’s average AQI was measured at 164 at 8 am today. Which was above 300 till yesterday.
Rain breaks 15 year record in Delhi
The national capital recorded the highest rainfall in 15 years in December, due to which the day temperature i.e. maximum temperature dropped rapidly to 14.6 degrees Celsius. Yesterday, December 27, it was raining in Delhi since 2.30 am and the day temperature dropped to 9.5 degrees Celsius, the lowest maximum temperature in December in the last five years. According to IMD, Delhi recorded the lowest temperature in December in the last five years.

Cold and foggy conditions will start from tomorrow
According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of generally cloudy sky and intermittent rain on Saturday also. Apart from this, there is a possibility of light rain once or twice from morning to afternoon, after which the sky will remain cloudy throughout the day. The main surface winds during the morning are expected to be south-easterly at speeds less than 4 kmph. The weather office said fog or light fog is expected in most areas and moderate fog at isolated places in the morning. After the end of the rainy season, there will be a huge drop in the minimum temperature from December 29 and the cold will increase and fog will start appearing.
