SME index falls 1878 points: Sensex lags behind banking shares by 617 points

Mumbai: Capital markets regulator SEBI has hinted at the need for stricter disclosures for IPOs of small and medium enterprises (SME) companies, raising concerns about manipulation in listing of shares. BSE SME index fell 1878.33 points to close at 55453.91 due to all-round selling in SME shares. BSE Small Cap Index fell 899.06 points to close at 43754.51. While funds sold heavily in frontline banking, consumer durables, IT-software services, automobile, capital goods stocks, Sensex fell 616.75 points to 73502.64 and Nifty 50 spot index fell 160.90 points to 22332.65.

Bankex falls by 607 points: Supreme Court order on electro bond to State Bank

Funds also recorded big losses in banking stocks today. The stock fell Rs 14.65 to Rs 773.50 after the Supreme Court ordered State Bank of India to disclose the list of buyers of Electro Bond by tomorrow. Bank of Baroda fell by Rs 4.40 to Rs 277.40, IndusInd Bank fell by Rs 23.90 to Rs 1540.20, HDFC Bank fell by Rs 19.30 to Rs 1427.05, Kotak Mahindra Bank fell by Rs 18.95 to Rs 1729.20. ICICI Bank fell by Rs 9.90 to Rs 1077.95, Axis Bank fell by Rs 7.45 to Rs 1104.45. BSE Bankex index fell 607.04 points to close at 53787.34.

Metal index falls 400 points: NMDC, SAIL, Vedanta, Tata Steel fall

Even in metal-mining stocks, funds booked big profits today as the BSE Metal index fell 400.85 points to close at 28336.36. NMDC fell by Rs 10.05 to Rs 228.75, SAIL fell by Rs 4.80 to Rs 134.20, Vedanta fell by Rs 7.40 to Rs 275.35, Tata Steel fell by Rs 3.75 to Rs 153.50, Jindal Steel fell by Rs 50 to Rs 826, Jindal Stainless fell by Rs 9.20 Rs 682, Coal India fell by Rs 5.10 to Rs 453.45.

Auto stocks fall: Bajaj Auto falls by Rs 238: Motherson, Apollo Tyres, Tata Motors fall

Due to profit booking in shares of automobile companies, BSE Auto Index fell 288.25 points and closed at 48099.68. Bajaj Auto fell by Rs 238.65 to Rs 8640, Motherson Sumi fell by Rs 2.60 to Rs 116.30, Apollo Tires fell by Rs 6.15 to Rs 510.75, Tata Motors fell by Rs 11.35 to Rs 1028, Ashok Leyland fell by Rs 1.55 to Rs 169.55, Maruti Suzuki fell by Rs 97.75. Came to Rs 11,405.15.

Funds ease bullish trade in IT stocks: 3i Infotech, Nugen, Axiscades fall

BSE IT index fell 220.17 points to close at 37524.07 as funds controlled bullish trade in IT-software services, technology stocks. 63 Moons Technology fell by Rs 22.20 to Rs 421.90, Persistent fell by Rs 154.65 to Rs 8211.30, Genesis Inter fell by Rs 11 to Rs 594.20, CAPIT fell by Rs 19.50 to Rs 1475.50.

Bearish train arrived: 3095 shares closed negative: Investors panicked and sold at low prices.

The market situation turned very sour today as retail investors started placing bets today in small cap, SME stocks with big gaps to break out of the bottom. Of the total 4082 stocks traded on BSE, the number of declining stocks was 3095, while the number of gainers was 876. Prices of 111 shares remained stable.

The asset-market capitalization of investors in stocks fell by Rs 3.16 lakh crore to Rs 389.65 lakh crore.

Investors' wealth in shares, i.e. the total market capitalization of BSE listed companies, fell by Rs 3,15,339 crore in a day to Rs 389.65 lakh crore.

FPIs/FIIs made net purchases of shares worth Rs 4213 crore: DIIs made net purchases of Rs 3238 crore.

Foreign portfolio investors – FPIs, FIIs made net purchases of shares worth Rs 4212.76 crore in cash today-Monday. There were sales of Rs 19,478.47 crore against total purchases of Rs 23,691.23 crore. While DII-Domestic Institutional Investors made net purchases of shares worth Rs 3238.39 crore in cash today. There were sales of Rs 7548.87 crore against total purchases of Rs 10,787.26 crore.
