Moradabad, 02 July (HS). The torrential rain in Moradabad since Tuesday morning has exposed the development work going on under the Smart City scheme in Moradabad metropolis. The three to four hours of rain today has flooded the Smart City being built at a cost of more than 800 crores. Be it the colonies of MDA or Awas Vikas, all are filled with water. Due to the blockage of drains, the streets and neighborhoods also got flooded. People had to work hard to remove rain water from the houses.
On Tuesday morning around 8 am, heavy rain started which continued till 12 noon and after an hour it started raining again. Four hours of rain exposed the reality of the drain cleaning campaign of the Municipal Corporation. On the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Divyanshu Patel, a special drain cleaning campaign of 72 hours has been started in the city two days ago. In which the fact that about 90 percent of the drains have been cleaned was completely negated by the rain today morning. The roads of many colonies including Ramganga Vihar, Deendayal Nagar, Naveen Nagar, Avantika, Aashiyana, Dev Vihar, Jigar Colony, Buddhi Vihar, which are among the posh colonies of the city, remained flooded with water. On the other hand, the condition of the colonies situated in the lower places of the city, Ramtalaiya, Dhakkha, Jayantipur, Bholanath, Mahashiv Colony, Linepar, Paipatpura, Vikas Nagar Linepar, Kundanpur, Karula etc. was even worse. The water could not drain from the roads of these colonies even several hours after the rain stopped. On the main roads like Fawwara Chowk on Delhi Road, Station Road, Dhakkha ki Puliya, Buddhi Vihar St. Meera School Road etc., due to lack of drainage, rain water came on the roads.
Roads collapsed in many colonies and mohallas
Every year, roads in the metropolis cave in during the rainy season. While roads caved in during the rains in the past, today too the road which was left leveled after digging for the sewer line work also caved in at many places due to rain. The road caved in at two places behind Gopal Chaat Wala in Ashiana Colony Deendayal Nagar Pratham. Apart from this, potholes have formed due to the collapse of the road near Jain Mandir, Kila on Kanth Road, Harthala and near the Government Polytechnic.
