News India Live, Digital Desk: Telangana Rains: The torrential rains in Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana, have brought the entire city to their knees. When people woke up on Thursday morning after overnight rain, they found their city submerged in water. Roads have been built ponds, vehicles are stuck in water and traffic has become such a jam that conditions like unannounced ‘lockdown’ have been created in the city.

The city has recorded more than 100 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, causing many areas of Hyderabad and its surroundings completely submerged. The situation is so bad that the government has to take big steps to protect the people.

Water all around the city

In almost all the main areas of Hyderabad, such as Khairatabad, Sheikhapet, Malakpet, LB Nagar, Hayatnagar and Uppal, the streets are full of water from knees to waist. In the morning, the people who went to office and school were stuck in traffic for hours. In many places, the vehicles were locked in the water, which had to be pushed. Madhapur and Gachibovali, called the IT hub of the city, have the same condition, which is badly disturbed by thousands of employees.

The city’s famous Hussain Sagar Lake has also crossed its danger mark, after which its gates have to be opened. This has further increased the risk of flooding in low -lying areas.

Government issued warning, school-college closed

In view of the deteriorating situation, the Telangana government has announced a holiday on Thursday in all government and private schools, colleges and other educational institutions coming under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) border. The government has also advised private companies to allow their employees to work from home, so that people do not leave the streets.

The Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued a red alert for the city and warned that there may be heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours. People have been appealed not to leave their homes until they are very necessary. Teams are ready for relief and rescue and the administration is constantly monitoring the situation.

This rain has come as a major challenge for Hyderabad, which has exposed the city’s drainage system and infrastructure.
