Six franchises announced for the second season of the Global Chess League

New Delhi, July 8 (HS). The Global Chess League on Monday announced six franchises for its second season, to be held from October 3 to 12 at Friends House in London. The second season will see the introduction of a new team, American Gambits, owned by business leader Prachura PP, Venkat K Narayan and Indian cricketer and chess enthusiast Ravichandran Ashwin.

The six franchises competing in the second season include American Gambits apart from Alpine SG Pipers (APL Apollo-led SG Sports), Gangs Grandmasters (Insurekot Sports), Mumba Masters (Unilazer Ventures), PBG Alaska Knights (Puneet Balan Group) and inaugural season champions Triveni Continental Kings (Triveni Engineering & Industries Ltd).
The players will compete in a unique combined team format consisting of six players, with each team comprising two top female chess players and one talented player. In the tournament, each team will play a total of 10 matches in a double round-robin format, with the winner of each match decided based on a best-of-six board scoring system.

Teams will play five matches, with all six players on each team initially playing against their opponents with either white or black pieces, followed by a reverse round in which the entire team plays five matches against the same opponent with reverse-colored pieces.
The winning team for each match will be determined based on the points obtained from wins and draws in all the games played in the match.
The top two teams will advance to the final round.

Sameer Pathak, CEO of Global Chess League, said, “We are extremely pleased to welcome the teams for the second season of the Global Chess League. We have found the right partners to strengthen the global reach of the league and we look forward to bringing an exciting season of chess to fans around the world. The teams made season one a very successful one and we are confident that their influence and popularity will continue to grow in the world of chess.”
