Heavy rains have caused floods in most parts of the island country Sri Lanka. This week, heavy rains have wreaked havoc in many parts of the country, due to which houses, fields and roads have been flooded. According to the country's disaster management centre, three people have drowned. The Center said heavy rains and floods have destroyed 240 houses and displaced about seven thousand people. Authorities have imposed power cuts in some areas as a precautionary measure.
The situation has worsened due to floods in the last five months.
Navy and Army personnel have been deployed to rescue the flood victims, who are also helping them with food and other essential items. Sri Lanka has been experiencing severe weather conditions since May, mainly due to heavy monsoon rains. In June, floods and landslides killed 16 people and affected more than one lakh people.
The roads are flooded and Sri Lankans have been facing this situation for the last five months. In the year 2021, a similar disaster occurred in Sri Lanka due to heavy rains. Then many people's houses were flooded. Five thousand people were displaced. Even then there was a lot of destruction due to floods.
