New Delhi, September 12 (HS). Senior party leader D Raja has expressed deep condolences on the demise of Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary and senior leader Sitaram Yechury. He said, “Sitaram Yechury was a clear writer, able parliamentarian and a capable leader. His absence will be felt in the left and democratic circles.”

Expressing his condolences, party general secretary D Raja said, “I am deeply saddened by the demise of Comrade Sitaram Yechury. He further said, “After coming to the national centre, we worked together on many forums like the steering committee of the United Front government and later in shaping the common minimum programme of UPA-1. Our tenure in Parliament also coincided and we worked in close coordination articulating the Left parties' stand in the Upper House. After becoming general secretaries of the CPI and CPI(M), we worked together for the unity of the Left, secular and democratic forces.” “My heartfelt tributes to Comrade Sitaram. My condolences to his family and the CPI(M).”

CPI(M) leader Annie Raja said in her condolence message that Sitaram Yechury's death is a big loss for the CPI(M) and also a big blow to the leftist movement of the country.
