Singrauli: CBI raids hideouts of people associated with NCL, five arrested | News India

Singrauli, 19 August (HS). The Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) raid on the houses of people and officials associated with Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) in Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh continued for the second day. After this operation which continued till late evening on Monday, CBI has informed about the arrest of five people. A DSP of CBI has also been arrested on the charge of taking bribe. CBI has also recovered four crore rupees in cash during the entire operation.

Earlier on Sunday, three different teams of CBI started raiding the premises of two NCL officers and a supplier. After the day-long raid on Sunday, the CBI team also raided the houses of two NCL officers Sunil Prasad Singh and Ravindra Prasad on Monday. During this, the team scrutinized the necessary documents. This raid was carried out by the CBI team from Delhi under the leadership of Additional SP Mukesh Kumar.

CBI has informed that five people have been arrested in the second day's action. These include NCL CMD's personal secretary Subedar Ojha, Chief Manager (Administration) Basant Kumar Singh, owner of M/s Sangam Engineering Ravi Shankar Singh, Ravi Shankar Singh's associate Divesh Singh and Jabalpur CBI DSP Joy Joseph Damle. During the search at their place, CBI has recovered huge amount of cash, digital devices and many objectionable documents.

According to the CBI, middleman and owner of Singrauli-based M/s Sangam Engineering Ravishankar Singh has also been arrested, who was allegedly working as a mediator between various contractors, traders and several officials of Northern Coalfields Limited. He is alleged to have been providing bribes and facilitating the officials of Northern Coalfields Limited. The CBI has also arrested Ravishankar Singh's associate Divesh Singh. Divesh had gone to Jabalpur to give a bribe of Rs 5 lakh to a CBI officer. That's when he was arrested. Ravishankar Singh and Divesh Singh were working as middlemen between NCL (Northern Coalfields Limited) officials and the CBI DSP.

CBI has arrested Deputy Superintendent of Police Joy Joseph Damle of Jabalpur CBI ACB Branch red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh for giving favorable report in pending complaints and investigation cases. Chief Manager (Administration) NCL Basant Kumar Singh is accused of helping the accused in sending money to CBI in exchange for investigation. Subedar Ojha, personal secretary of NCL CMD, first mediated between the CMD and supplier Ravi Singh for making payment in exchange for machinery supply. Apart from this, when the complaint reached CBI, he helped in sending the money to CBI through Ravi Shankar Singh and Basant Kumar Singh.

It is worth mentioning that the country's Maharatna company Coal India Limited has eight subsidiaries, one of which is NCL, i.e. Northern Coalfield Limited. Like other subsidiaries, it also produces coal and coal products. The company itself mines coal. It contracts out the work of digging and transporting soil. Apart from this, most of the materials required for production are supplied by Coal India and some materials are procured from suppliers through the tender process.
