In Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena has announced the names of candidates for 16 seats for the Lok Sabha elections. There are many seats where Congress has been presenting its claim. However, Uddhav was the first to announce his candidates there. Meanwhile, speculation is rife that opposition unity in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has already broken. Prakash Ambedkar of Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi has already expressed his displeasure with the MVA leaders and said that there is no coordination among the three forces.
In the list of candidates released by Shiv Sena (UBT), Anil Desai has been made the candidate from Mumbai South Central Lok Sabha seat, while Congress wanted to field Varsha Gaikwad from this seat. There is also a possibility that MVA constituents may have a friendly fight on some seats. If this happens then the vote bank of MVA may get divided internally and Mahayuti may benefit from it.
Congress was also interested in Mumbai North West seat from where it wanted to field former MP Sanjay Nirupam but Shiv Sena has fielded Amol Kirtikar from there. Uddhav Thackeray has also fielded his candidate on Sangli seat, while Congress was also staking claim for it. From 1962 to 2009, Congress has been continuously winning from Sangli seat. It has been called the stronghold of Congress but in the last two elections (2014 and 2019), BJP's Sanjay Kaka Patil has been winning there. Shiv Sena (UBT) also claimed Kolhapur and Sangli Lok Sabha seats. However, later Uddhav has left Kolhapur seat.
In the list released by Shiv Sena, Narendra Khedekar from Buldhana, Sanjay Deshmukh from Yavatmal-Washim, Sanjog Waghare Patil from Maval, Chandrahar Patil from Sangli, Nagesh Patil Ashtikar from Hingoli, Chandrakant Kheyre from Sambhajinagar, Omraj Nimbalkar from Dharshiv, Bhausaheb Waghchore from Shirdi. Rajabhau Waje, Anant Geete from Nashik, Anant Geete from Raigarh, Vinayak Raut from Sindhudurg Ratnagiri, Rajan Vikhe from Thane, Sanjay Dina Patil from Mumbai North-East, Arvind Sawant from Mumbai South, Amol Kirtikar from Mumbai North-West have been given tickets. . Sanjay Jadhav from Parbhani seat.
According to Sanjay Raut, as per seat distribution in MVA, Shiv Sena will contest on 22 seats, while Congress will contest on 16 seats and Sharad Pawar's NCP will contest on 10 seats. There are total 48 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
