Jaipur, 11 April (HS). After registering a last-ball win over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match, Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill praised Rashid Khan's competitiveness, saying he was capable of finishing the game on his own. I like it. He said that GT took the game deep and never lost hope till the last ball.
Shubman Gill's brilliant half-century and Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan's brilliant finishing helped Gujarat Titans (GT) seal a thrilling three-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match in Jaipur on Wednesday. Rashid gave victory to Gujarat by hitting a four on the last ball.
After the match, Gill said, “We were targeting 45 runs in three overs and that is quite achievable, and that was the mentality. Mathematically, it is as if both the batsmen need to score 22 runs in 9 balls, and if one of the batsmen plays even faster, it will be over two-three balls earlier.”
Regarding his dismissal and Rashid-Tewatia's finishing, Gill said, “I would have liked to finish the game but I am very happy with the way Rashid Bhai and Rahul Bhai finished the game. In the last game also we were dominant by more than 50 per cent but faltered in the end. Winning the game on the last ball is an amazing feeling. Rashid is a player you always want in your team.”
Talking about the match, Rajasthan, batting first, scored 20 runs thanks to the half-centuries of captain Sanju Samson (68 runs not out, 38 balls, 7 fours, 2 sixes) and Ryan Parag (76 runs from 48 balls, 3 fours, 5 sixes). Scored 196 runs for 3 wickets in the over.
In reply, Gujarat won by scoring 199 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs. Gujarat needed 15 runs in the last over, Avesh Khan brought this over for Rajasthan. In the drama of the last over, Rashid hit two fours on the first 3 balls of the over. He then took one run, leaving GT needing 4 runs from the last 2 balls. After this, Tewatia hit Avesh over the mid-off fielder and was run out while trying to take the third run. GT needed 2 runs on the last ball, Rashid hit a four at backward point and gave the team victory. Rashid remained unbeaten after scoring 24 runs on 11 balls. Apart from Rashid, captain Shubman Gill played a brilliant inning of 72 runs.
