Should 44 year old ‘Kashi Formula’ be implemented in Ram temple also? This is how the UP government changed the entire history after a big theft. Will the 44-year-old ‘Kashi Formula’ be applied to the Ram Mandir as well? Here is how the UP government changed the entire history following a major theft.

After the construction of the grand and divine Ram temple in Ayodhya and the consecration of Ramlala, now a big demand is being raised regarding the long-term management and security of the temple. Senior legal experts and thinkers of the country believe that the same steps should be taken in the arrangement and administrative structure of Ayodhya Ram temple, which the Uttar Pradesh government had taken for the historical Kashi Vishwanath temple of Varanasi about 44 years ago. In fact, in the year 1983, a sensational theft in Kashi Vishwanath temple had forced the then government to take such a tough decision, which changed the entire system there forever.

What was the 44 year old incident that shook the government?

This incident happened in the year 1983, when a very precious and historical umbrella of Lord Shiva was stolen from the Kashi Vishwanath temple of Varanasi. After this incident, there was huge anger among Shiva devotees across the country and the then Uttar Pradesh government was completely shaken. Till then the management of the temple was in the hands of a private trust of local abbots and priests. In view of this major security lapse and chaos, the UP government decided to take a very strict and historic step.

When UP government took control of Kashi by making a law

After the theft incident, the Uttar Pradesh government implemented the ‘Kashi Vishwanath Temple Act, 1983’. Under this law, the government took control of the entire management, security and financial system of the temple. For this, an official board was formed, whose command was handed over to senior administrative officers like Commissioner and District Magistrate. There was a lot of opposition to this decision of the government at that time, but later the Supreme Court of the country also completely justified this law of the government. The result of this government control is that today the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor and the security system there has become an example for the whole world.

Why is there a demand to implement ‘Kashi Formula’ in Ayodhya Ram Temple?

Presently Ayodhya Ram Temple is being operated by ‘Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust’. However, considering the huge crowd of lakhs of devotees thronging the Ram temple every day, its sensitivity at the global level and the security threats, experts argue that it should also be brought under the ambit of a special State Act on the lines of Kashi Vishwanath Temple. Experts say that with the formation of a full-fledged Statutory Board, the security of the temple, transparent audit of offerings and VIP management will come under the direct supervision of the government and administrative officials, due to which the scope for any kind of lapse or dispute in future will be completely eliminated.
