A horrific accident took place on Monday night in Mumbai city, considered the financial capital of the country. A government bus (Bestani Bus) crushed many people in the market and overturned on vehicles on LBS Road in Kurla area of Mumbai. It is being told that so far 6 people have lost their lives in this incident. While 30 people are injured. There was chaos after the accident. On receiving information, police reached there and the injured were taken to Bhabha Hospital. The accident happened on Kurla West Railway Station Road in Ambedkar Nagar. The bus was going from Kurla station to Andheri. This BEST bus runs under BMC. The injured have been admitted to Sion and Kurla Bhabha Hospital.
How did the accident happen?
A new thing has come to light in this incident. Shiv Sena MLA Dilip Lande has claimed that the BEST bus driver was scared and accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake. 54 year old Sanjay More was driving the bus that crushed 35 people at around 9.30 pm on Monday night. He claimed that the incident occurred due to brake failure.
Minutes after the accident, Shiv Sena MLA Dilip Lande told the media that a bus had left Kurla station, its brakes failed and the driver lost control of the bus. Due to which the driver got scared. He stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake, causing the bus to speed up and lose control. Then 30 to 35 people came in front of him on the road.
The police have taken the accused bus driver into custody. According to eyewitnesses, the bus driver was drunk and could not control the heavy vehicle. On the other hand, what State Transport Department Inspector Bharat Jadhav said is also worrying. He told that prima facie the brakes of the bus are fine. Detailed investigation will be done later. The bus ran indiscriminately for 100 meters at the speed of a train on SG Barve road, crushing people. All the vehicles on the road were crushed.
A new driver?
According to a report, a shocking information has also come to light about this bus driver. Driver Sanjay More has joined as a driver on 1st December. The driver is 54 years old and was earlier employed somewhere else. Preliminary investigation by the police has revealed that the bus driver has never driven any big vehicle before.
