Mumbai: A Porsche car hit and run incident in Pune happened this morning outside Atria Mall in Worli area of Mumbai in which a speeding luxury BMW car hit a fishing couple riding on a scooter. The couple was thrown and hit the bonnet of the car. The husband managed to jump off the bonnet but the wife died after the car fell on the road 100 meters away.
At the time of the accident, it was found that Mihir Shah, a leader of CM Eknath Shinde's party Shiv Sena in Palghar, was driving the car. Mihir Shah fled immediately after the accident. The police arrested Rajesh Shah and the driver who were present in the car.
Regarding this entire incident, Mumbai Police said that at 5.30 am today, fisherman couple Pradeep Laila and his wife Kaveri Laila (45 years old), living in Worli Koliwada, were returning after buying fish from Sassoon Dock. They were passing near Atria Mall in Worli on a two-wheeler. At the same time, a speeding BMW car hit their two-wheeler from behind. The two-wheeler's headlights fell and the scooter overturned and the couple fell on the bonnet of the car.
With the help of the timing indicator, Pradeep jumped to the side of the road and survived, but his wife Kaveri fell on the bonnet of the BMW 100 meters away. She died on the spot after being hit by the car. After the incident, Kaveri was rushed to Nair Hospital where doctors declared her dead before admission.
Pradeep Laila told the media that suddenly a BMW car hit his scooter from behind and the scooter went out of control and overturned. He jumped and fell on the side of the road but his wife Kaveri first fell on the bonnet of the BMW and due to full speed the BMW ran over her for 100 meters. Pradeep said that he shouted to stop the car but after the accident the driver drove away. Kaveri died due to serious injuries in this accident.
After this incident, Worli police seized the BMW car and took its owner Rajesh Shah into custody. Rajesh Shah is considered the deputy leader of the Shinde faction in Palghar. Another person present in the car was identified as driver Rajrishi Rajendrasingh Bidawat. Police also took him into custody.
According to reports, Mihir was returning after drinking heavily at a bar in Juhu. He insisted on driving the car himself. Being under the influence of alcohol, he lost control of the car and met with an accident. However, the police started obtaining CCTV footage to confirm who was actually driving the car at the time of the incident.
This incident immediately took a political turn. CM Eknath Shinde said that the police will work according to the law and will not discriminate against anyone. On receiving the news of the accident, Shiv Sena UBT leader and local MLA Aditya Thackeray immediately reached the police station to get information. He said that it is hoped that no one will get political approval in this case.
