Shiromani Committee welcomes Supreme Court's directions to UP government in 1984 Kanpur Sikh massacre case

1984 Kanpur Sikh riots- Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee welcomes the directions given by the Hon'ble Supreme Court to the Government of Uttar Pradesh in the 1984 Kanpur Sikh Massacre case.

It is noteworthy that a PIL related to the Kanpur Sikh massacre case was filed by Jathedar Kuldeep Singh Bhogal in 2017, and considering its seriousness, the Shiromani Committee is providing legal assistance in this. The Shiromani Committee has provided the services of senior lawyers Mr. Parsoon Kumar and S. Gurbakhsh Singh to plead these cases.

Giving information in this regard, Secretary of Shiromani Committee, S. Pratap Singh said that the Sikh organization is continuously making efforts to get the culprits punished in the case of massacre of Sikhs in Kanpur in 1984. He said that the Hon'ble Court has ordered the Uttar Pradesh government to appoint 2 special public prosecutors in the 11 cases in which charge sheets have been filed.

Also, the Chief Investigation Officer has been asked to cooperate with them. He said that similarly, with regard to the appeals pending in 4 cases in Allahabad High Court, the High Court has been directed to hear these cases on priority basis. Similarly, with regard to 9 closed cases, the Uttar Pradesh government has been directed to give the names related to the cases to the petitioners.
