New Delhi, 24 October (Hindustan Reporter). Major League Baseball (MLB) has chosen former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan to be a part of a reality sports series showcasing the growth of the sport in India. The series will launch on October 25, 2024.
The four-episode series features Dhawan, 5-time All-Star slugger Adam Jones and sports presenter Jatin Sapru. The series is made in collaboration with Disney Star, titled 'Hotshots'.
'Hotshots' tests the hitting ability of the country's 10 best amateur batsmen, with the winner receiving a top prize of Rs 15 lakh. Shikhar and Adam will coach these contestants.
'Hotshots' follows last year's 'Indian Baseball Dreams', and tells the inspiring real-life story of Arjun Nimmala, a first-generation Indian American who will be selected in the first round of the MLB draft in 2023.
The release of the series will coincide with the start of the 120th World Series, scheduled for October 26.
On participating in 'Hotshots', Shikhar Dhawan said, “I am very excited! A Major League Baseball tournament is taking place in which both cricketers and baseball players are participating. This is the first competition of its kind in India.”
Adam Jones said, “There is definitely talent here and we are just scratching the surface right now. I want the game of baseball to become more popular in India when the fans here see how useful their batting skills are in my game in cricket. I look forward to seeing the success of future Indian baseball players.”
