New Delhi, 06 August (HS). Although there was no official statement about granting political asylum to Sheikh Hasina in India after the high-level meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi till late night, the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh is currently kept safe at the Hindon Airbase of the Air Force and she spent the night at the airbase itself. After Sheikh Hasina's plane landed here on Monday evening, NSA Ajit Doval met her for one and a half hours and assured her of taking future decisions.
Bangladesh leader Sheikh Hasina arrived at Hindon Airbase in Ghaziabad on Monday evening. Her transport aircraft landed at around 5:36 pm. After this, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval arrived to meet her. Bangladesh leader Sheikh Hasina discussed the current situation and future strategy of Bangladesh with NSA Ajit Doval at Hindon Airbase for one and a half hours. Her convoy left Hindon Airbase at around 7 pm. Western Air Command Chief Air Marshal PM Sinha also met Sheikh Hasina at Hindon Airbase. After meeting the NSA and senior military officials, it was decided to keep Sheikh Hasina at Hindon Airbase for the time being with tight security arrangements. Bangladesh leader Sheikh Hasina is still in a safe place at the Indian Air Force's Hindon Airbase in Ghaziabad, Delhi-NCR. She spent the night under tight security of the Indian Air Force and other security agencies. In view of the current developments, the Indian Air Force has put its air assets on high alert in the eastern sector. The Indian Army and Air Force played an active role when Sheikh Hasina entered Indian airspace. NSA Doval himself kept a close watch on the ground situation while Indian Air Force Chief VR Choudhary handled the air security.
The Air Chief Marshal was keeping a close watch on the C-130 transport aircraft of the Bangladesh Air Force along with his team at the Air Force Headquarters. Two Rafale aircraft were flown from Hashimara Squadron of West Bengal to provide security to the Bangladeshi C-130 coming to India with Sheikh Hasina. Apart from this, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi was ready for any action if needed. The Indian Army was asked to be ready for any action if needed.
Bangladesh was scheduled to participate with its C-130 transport aircraft in the multinational air exercise 'Taranga Shakti' to be hosted by India for the first time in August, but now this is unlikely to happen due to Hasina's loss of power and the tense situation in Bangladesh. Sheikh Hasina has not yet sought political asylum in India but she is temporarily in India. There is a possibility of her seeking political asylum in the United Kingdom, where her sister Rehana is also a citizen. Meanwhile, the British government has in a way indicated that Britain will not grant asylum by demanding an independent investigation led by the United Nations into the events of the last few weeks in Bangladesh.
