Bangladesh Crisis: Bangladesh President Mohammad Shahabuddin said on Monday (05 August) that 'We have accepted Sheikh Hasina's resignation from the post of Prime Minister. Along with this, the President has also ordered the release of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, who is under house arrest after being convicted in several cases. Shahabuddin also announced the dissolution of Parliament and the formation of an interim government. The central government had called an all-party meeting which has now concluded.

In the all-party meeting, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said, 'The Indian government is keeping a close watch on the situation in Bangladesh, whatever the situation, information will be given. There are about 12 to 13,000 Indians in Bangladesh. However, the situation is not so worrying that Indians need to be airlifted. There is no decision yet on whether Sheikh Hasina will stay in India or take political asylum in another country. The government has held a brief discussion with Hasina.

BNP is behind the protests: Awami League

Before the change of power, the ruling Awami League party in Bangladesh has accused the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) of being behind the nationwide violence. According to the Awami League, the demand for the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina even after the Supreme Court's decision on reservation shows that in reality the protests are not being carried out by students, but by the country's main opposition political party-BNP and the banned party organization – Jamaat-e-Islami. Their aim is to gain power in the country by any means. The administration is also constantly accusing student organizations of inciting violence.

Indian border with Bangladesh is safe: West Bengal Governor

West Bengal Governor C.V. Anand Bose said, 'Amid concerns arising from unrest in Bangladesh, India's border with the neighboring country is safe. People should not pay attention to any rumors.' Apart from this, the Governor has also formed a 'monitoring committee', which will keep people informed about true information and rumors round the clock. Bose further said that 'strict action will be taken against those who spread rumors and misleading information.'
