The brother of Lieutenant General Faiz Hamid, former chief of Pakistan's notorious spy agency ISI, has been arrested in Pakistan's Punjab province on corruption charges.
However, this arrest is also being seen as an act of revenge by the new government of Pakistan. The new government has opened a front against officials who had earlier targeted Nawaz Sharif's family during Imran Khan's rule. Faiz Hamid was one of the favorite officials of the Imran Khan government. Imran Khan even wanted to make him the army chief.
Now that the Sharif family has an important role in the new coalition government, Hamid's brother has been put behind bars. Anti-corruption department spokesperson said that former ISI chief Lieutenant General Faiz Hamid's brother and revenue officer Najaf Hamid was arrested from Chakwal on Monday on charges of corruption and misbehavior with officials. He will be presented in the court for remand.
On the other hand, opponents of the Sharif family are calling this arrest a bias-motivated and vindictive action. Because Nawaz Sharif's daughter and current Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz, during the election campaign, had also announced filing of fake cases against former Army Chief General Bajwa, former ISI chief Lieutenant General Faiz Hamid and former Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar. Will go to jail against our family and the country will have to stand in the court and answer.
