Sharad Navratri 2024: The festival of Shakti worship, Sharadiya Navratri, is going to start from October 3. Goddess Durga is worshiped and adored in Sharadiya Navratri. Apart from this, nine different forms of the goddess are worshiped. Devotees of Goddess Durga observe fasts during these nine days and worship Goddess Shakti. So know how to do Ghatasthapana in the auspicious time on the first day of Sharadiya Navratri.

When is Sharadiya Navratri 2024? (Sharadiya Navratri 2024 Date)

  • According to the Hindu calendar, the Pratipada date of Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month will start at 12:19 pm on October 3 and end at 2:58 am on October 4. According to the Udaya date, Sharadiya Navratri will start from Thursday, October 3, 2024. Sharadiya Navratri will end on Saturday, October 12, 2024.

  • This year there are two auspicious times for Kalash Sthapana during Sharadiya Navratri. The auspicious time for Kalash Sthapana in the morning is from 6:15 am to 7:22 am. You will get 1 hour and 6 minutes for morning walk.
  • Apart from this, the auspicious time for Kalash Sthapana in the afternoon is in Abhijeet Muhurta. This is considered the best time. On this day, Kalash Sthapana can be done between 11:46 am to 12:33 pm. There will be an auspicious time of 47 minutes in the afternoon.

Worship material for Sharadiya Navratri – Shardiyanavratri pooja samagri

Mother's picture or idol, Mata Rani's makeup, red chunari, red bangles, mauli, jewelry, kumkum, red cloth for chowki, coconut, aarti book, kalava, dry fruits, mango stick, barley, havan kund, clean rice, camphor, batasha, leaves, betel nut, cardamom, fruits/sweets, sindoor, mango leaves, red cloth, incense sticks or dhoopbatti, lamp, ghee/oil, flowers, flower garland, cloves, matches, chowki, Ganga water, panchmeva, betel leaves, seat, urn, turmeric knot.

Materials required for installation

Sapta Dhanya, wide mouthed earthen pot, holy soil, Kalash, water, mango or Ashoka leaves, betel nut, coconut with husk, whole rice, barley, red cloth, flowers.

  • Ghatasthapana is done on the first day of Navratri. Ghat means earthen pot.
  • It is installed in the north-east corner during the auspicious time on the first day of Navratri.
  • Place a stool where the Ghat is to be installed and spread a clean red cloth on it and then place the picture or idol of Goddess Durga on it.
  • Sprinkle Gangajal on the right side of this idol and first put some soil in the earthen pot and then add barley.
  • Then spread a layer of soil. Add barley once again.
  • Spread a layer of soil again. Now sprinkle water on it.
  • In this way, fill the container till the top.
  • Now install this vessel and perform the puja.
  • A copper or brass urn is also installed.
  • Fill the Kalash with Gangajal and put mango leaves, betelnut, turmeric root, durva, money and mango leaves in it.
  • Tie a sacred thread on the Kalash, then tie the coconut with the sacred thread between the leaves.
  • Install the Kalash on the right side of the idol of Maa Durga and perform puja by lighting a lamp.
  • If the Kalash needs to be covered then fill the vessel with rice and if the Kalash is open then put mango leaves in it.
  • Tie a sacred thread on the Kalash, then tie the coconut with the sacred thread between the leaves.
  • Now invoke the gods and goddesses and pray that 'O all gods and goddesses, please reside in the Kalash for 9 days.' After invoking, worship the Kalash by believing that all the gods and goddesses are present in the Kalash.
  • Apply tilak on the Kalash, offer rice, offer garland of flowers, offer perfume, offer naivedya i.e. fruits and sweets etc.
