Veteran paddler Sharath Kamal and world number 24 Manika Batra will lead the men's and women's teams respectively at the Paris Olympics. India will make its Olympic debut in the team event for the first time. The senior selection committee of TTFI selected the six-member team (three in each category) as per Olympic guidelines. Apart from this, players have also been selected to participate in singles. Two players from Gujarat, Harmeet Desai and Manav Thakkar, have made it to the three-member men's team. Manika, Sreeja Akula and Archana Kamath have been selected for women. G Sathiyan and Ayhika Mukherjee will be the alternate players. Sharath and Harmeet will compete in the men's singles and Manika and Sreeja will challenge in the women's singles. This decision has been taken on the basis of the new world ranking. This will be the fifth and final Olympics for 41-year-old Sharath, who made his Olympic debut in 2004. Manika and Sreeja are part of the team based on their world ranking (within the top 50).
