Mumbai, 30 November (HS). In Pune, Nationalist Congress Party President Sharad Pawar on Saturday met senior social activist Dr. Babasaheb Pandurang Aadhav alias Baba Aadhav, who is fasting unto death in protest against EVMs. Pawar has supported the hunger strike going on for the last three days against EVMs on the occasion of Baba Aadhav’s death anniversary.
Senior social activist Baba Aadhav (96) is on hunger strike since November 28 in protest against EVMs. “There are huge discrepancies in the voter turnout figures declared by the ECI, they keep changing,” he said. The vote counting processes were allegedly manipulated to give undue advantage to the outgoing NDA government and related aspects were also discussed. This decision is an attack on democracy.” Baba Adhav said that “The government wants a democracy in which it has a monopoly without any opposition (party). Therefore, it is the duty and responsibility of all citizens to thwart this and take a firm stand.”
On this occasion, Sharad Pawar said that Baba Adhav has taken this step in the interest of the people, to save democracy and to protect the Constitution, for which we all are with him. The reason for this is also that Congress chief Nana Patole had written a letter to the Election Commission on November 29 pointing out the alleged flaws in the elections, which the Election Commission has rejected. Therefore now there is no other way left except going to the public. After this, today NCP AP President Ajit Pawar also met Baba Adhav and discussed with him.
