RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das: The tenure of Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikanta Das is ending today. Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra will take over as RBI Governor from tomorrow. Today, on the last day, Shaktikanta Das made an emotional post on social media thanking the government, stakeholders and his colleagues.

In a social media post, Das thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for handing over the role as RBI governor and providing guidance and encouragement during his tenure. “Many thanks to Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving me the opportunity to serve the nation as Governor of RBI and for his guidance and encouragement, I have benefited greatly from his thinking,” Das wrote.

He also thanked Nirmala Sitharaman and wrote about her, “Thank you to Honorable Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for her continued support, she has helped us overcome many challenges in the last six years.” Fiscal-monetary policy has been balanced over the last six years.

Das acknowledged the inputs and suggestions received from stakeholders from various sectors including financial, agriculture, cooperative and service industries. He appreciated experts, economists and industry bodies for their valuable contribution in policy making. Das in his message praised the RBI team for facing the challenges. Das also praised the RBI team for its collective efforts in delivering an unprecedented performance amid challenging global economic challenges.

The government has appointed Sanjay Malhotra, currently serving as Revenue Secretary in the Finance Ministry, as the new Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. According to an official notification of the Department of Personnel and Training issued on Monday, the appointment is effective from December 11, 2024 and will be valid for a period of three years.
